For my 86 5000CS Turbo, I was able to find a standard off the shelf spring from a local
hardware store (they specialize in springs)  that fit in the wastegate and  allowed 1.8 bar boost. 
I just brought in my old spring and matched up the diameter and length. I used a sring with a 
slightly larger wire diameter. I installed a threaded bolt to allow adjustment of the spring perch. 

I used a  hardware hack inside the computer to fool (reduce voltage) seen from the pressure
sensor. Keep in mind that normally the computer adds some pressure on one side of the 
wastegate to increase allowable boost. It uses a look up table (map) to adjust boost for different
RPM levels, loads etc.  If your hardware hack doesn't alter the pressure sensor output correctly
the boost will be regulated only by the spring.
