Dave,
	Regarding the alternator... the brushes are available from
the Audi dealer for about $8. The voltage regulator- brush assembly is
more like $65. This assembly can be removed by itself (leaving the
alternator in the car) by removing the two screws behind the alternator
holding this in place. You'll need a powerful soldering iron (at least
100W) to change the brushes. If the regulator is fine (I think its
supposed to regulate at 14.4 volts - this is from memory; check Bentley)
then just replace the brushes.
