I have a sedan and ran the wire up to the positive terminal of the
battery. If you do it yourself, you will *know* that everything is done
right. Audi is not famous for wonderful wiring!

Cough cough!

Um, yeah, try to run directly to the battery for heavy loads. Also, run
amp's ground to battery, not just convenient body part. I don't under-
stand the evil spirits involved, but it can significantly reduce assorted
"noise" induced in the stereo. My amps are about three feet from the
battery, and I "bolted" to the body with BFB (Big F***ing Bolts) and was
getting all sorts of awful "whine/noise" through the speakers. After
talking to the local highend "Audio Salon" where I bought the rest of
the system (Denon head unit, 5-CD changer, kept the old Kenwood Amps
that the thief didn't bother/know about...). He said "battery ground".
It was only three feet! But damn if it didn't reduce about 90% of the
stray noise pickup.

As I say, I can't explain it, but empirically it works. YMMV, natch!
