Re: '87 5KCSTQ Idling Problem




This is exactly what I did (before I read this).  Good to know I was on 
the right track.

After cleaning/reinstalling/removing 3-4 times (BTW starter fluid worked
great - *much* better than gunk and speaking of gunk the vavle had plenty
of it) the car idled at about 1200 rpm.  I was pretty sure the valve was
ok so I played with the idle screw. I was able to screw it in about 1 1/2
turns and it idled at 800-900 rpm. 

The only thing I noticed, upon startup it idles below this level (for a
few seconds) and after driving around town it started to idle around
1000-1100.  I suspect air is getting in somewhere. Not sure where to look
for next. At least its much better than 2800! 

Saturday I'll be driving 500 km to my wife's uncle for a safety - it will
be a good test.  I've been driving around without plates and a 10 day
permit (sure get some strange looks). 

Thanks again for all the help guys.  I would have been really stuck 
without all of your advice!
