Re:Does this sound like a fuel pump problem or ignition failure?
Anthony:
About your fuel pump problem. What are your driving habits? Do you regularly let the tank run below 1/4 full? If you do, I recommend that you stop this practice.
I just went through a similar problem with my girfriend's ah, "escort". She was ranting and raving about the pump failing at 60k miles. And then she ranted how this was the third car that she owned, all different manufacturers, where the fuel pump failed.
She regularly used to run the car well below 1/4 tank. That's used to. She's now a little more educated and a little poorer $$$. The fuel pumps tend to cool themselves with the gasoline flowing through them. If there isn't enough gas, the pump heats up. Also, the crap that inevitably accumulates in the tank also gets sucked in. Do this often enough and the pump will fail prematurely.
Good luck with the new pump!
