Re: driving/pencil/fog

The DE headlamp:

The DE headlamp is an innovation from Hella. It functions rather like a slide
projector. The bulb is positioned at the focal point on the ellipsoid. A
shield is used instead of a slide to produce the cut-off. The convex lens
projects the light onto the road. This means more light output for better
vision, a sharper cut-off, minimum glare and more safety. Hella DE headlamps
are small but produce superior lighting performance.

Basically Hella answer to the quartz ion, me thinks Piaa has the bettr lite,
but what do I know......

>>>>Euro Beam Lamp>>>>>
Not really an option in the US, doubt you'll find that pattern here/////////

>>>>>>DRIVING: Again in the Hella series model Rallye 2000, the driving lamp
has a wattage of 55W with a range of 7000 feet (dimensions of fringe
illumination, not high intensity zone) Its projection is "test tube" shaped
from the direction of the light.
>>>>>>
:Remember tho the driving 55w bulb can be replaced with the 100w for a really
good compromise between the driving and the pencil

>>>>>>>
Again in the Hella 2000 series, the wattage for the pencil beam is 100W and
its projected range is 18,270 feet!!!!!. (Again, this is fringe illumination,
not high intensity zone. The projection is flame shaped from the direction of
the light.

Wide angle cornering Lamp:

It also uses a 100 watt bulb and projects 1000 feet at a 78 degree angle out
from the direction of the light.

A knowlegeable word to the wise on these two patterns...... 1) you will
never see a set of pencils on a car without a set of drivings, actually you
will usually see 2drivings of the 2000 with the pencil, I have both the
pencil and the driving lenses, the pencils are useless for all but the
longest of rallye stages, and not a street lite....... The reason you do not
use pencils alone is that they are so "hot" in the beam that you actually
LOSE vision in the hi beam range without the drivings ........ The wide angle
conerings again are a specialty lite used in conjunction with the ProRally
set up to "look" into the blind corners earlier than a driving would......
Not a practical lite for the street......

Having driven lots of lite setups, the 2000 are the cats meow, but the 10inch
lens is a little hard to keep discrete and steady....... How many lites will
you run? For the street most states have law restricting "operational"
forward facing lites (including drivngs, fogs, and headlights, and quads are
considered 4) to 6 total...... So you non euro q owners beware, a set of
fogs puts you at the limit....... Now, an argued point of clarification
(Ihad 7 forward facing on my ProRally scirocco) is that a covered lite is by
definition not operational........ Me, I enjoy the Rallye 2000 Drivings
with 100w bulbs for nitetime..... Ultimate for the street? 2 55w drivings,
1 55w pencil = 3 Rallye 2000. Practical? not so sure......

The theory behind the 2000 is simple...... The larger and deeper you make
the reflector and lens the more control you have over reflective and
refractive properties of lite
