Hot A4 1.8T in EC magazine!

In the Oct 95 issue of European Car magazine, there's a short write-up
on page 120 about the A!Avantgarde (German tuner) modifications to an
A4 1.8T.  Starting with the stock 1.8L 5valve 4cyl engine, they bumped
up the boost, added a remapped ECU and a stainless exhaust ("mit cata-
lysator" --- their words!).  They claim a 61 HP boost!  DROOL!!!!!  Do
you suppose their mods would be legal here?  I don't see anything too
outwardly offensive to the DOT folks, though I don't know what the new 
chip would do when hooked to an exhaust-sniffer....   

Also, I noticed in the latest issue of Classic Motorbooks catalog (tel
1-800-826-6600) there was a new "Brooklands" book entitled "Audi Quat-
tro 1981-1990" or something like that.
