I solved this problem in my 88 80 Quattro by using the bleeder valve at the
top of the radiator (8mm I think) to remove small air pocket that can form
and affects the sensor in turns. I either bleed it after parking (under
pressure), or parked and cool, remove the bleeder and add some water through
the bolt hole. The bleeder is the high point, so once you've added enough
to remove the air pocket., you'll notice the water will start going to the
overflow tank. Hope this helps for you...
