I've noticed that when I'm driving like an a#$h%^& (no wait, that doesn't sound
good. "Aggresive," yeah that's better...) and slamming through the gears, I
always grind fourth. This occurs whether I'm going from third to fourth, or
fifth to fourth. But only if I'm really gettin' on the accelerator. For
instance, Jerkoff in the BMW (WMB?) sees me coming in the fast lane, takes it
as an opportunity to show me he has the superior car (everyone knows any Beemer
is cooler than a junky old Audi right?), so he floors it and jumps right in
front of me. Supposing I'm in a good mood and decide to NOT give him a little
love tap at 80 MPH, I'll generally drop it in fourth, floor it, and leave him
(and his dopey 325) in a cloud of road grit. However, every time I do this, I
grind the d$%^ gear! It's not my shifting style (no really, I do push the
clutch in before I shift, honest) so wassup? Synchro's in bad shape? It will
always go into the gear, no real resistance, just makes a not-so-nice noise
when I jam it in. Same thing if I'm sitting at a light and Junior in the
lowered Prelude with the Crager deep-dish rims spins tire off the line to show
off to his girlfriend. Mine lives 2,000 miles away, so I'm always up for
embarassing someone else in front of theirs, so my four door boat and I go
sailing past him when he's still winding through the gears. I'm smooth all the
way up 'till fourth, then Grind City. Irritating. Ideas? No, me driving like
a normal human being is not a solution, this is much less likely to get me shot
at than cursing and flipping off everyone that cuts me off on the way home
(it's also kinda fun!) Any ideas would be appreciated!
