oops, yes, although the opel has obtained it's steering from williams (ie f1),
i'm not sure if it could be called automatic :-)

should be "semi-automatic sequential shifting"

as for the costs, yes, it's probably somewhat higher than the quattro system.
incidently the opel had the central torque splitter on the back of the gearbox
so the arrangement is :-

engine --- front diff --- flywheel/clutch -- gearbox -- torque splitter
-------> read diff

the transmission is over a metre long....
