Re: 55 alive?
Bob
Maybe its because no one drives 55 or even 65 anymore on interstate
highways. I spend a lot of time on I-94 between Chicago and Minneapolis,
and I can assure you that if you drive the posted 65 you'll be blown away
by all kinds of folks in all kinds of vehicles. Coming back from
Minneapolis last Sunday, in the stretch from M/StP to Madison, Wi, about
260 miles, I was running at 70+ in a non-Audi. My estimates were that
folks were easily cruisin' at 80 and doing upwards of 90 in spots.
It was nice old, law-abiding, Newt & Rush loving folks in mini-vans,
Buick Park Aves, etc. Not an Audi, BMW, MB, etc. in sight. Of course,
most of these folks have neither the skills nor wheel to drive at such
speeds. Lets repeal that national 55 and let the states do what they
think is best. Of course the states really dont have a much better
record than the feds in doing the right thing--or doing things right.
Let the carnage begin!!
