Zero voltage switching refers to turning on when the polarity changes
and goes through zero volts on an AC wavevform. Hopefully this does
not apply to your autos power system.
There are solid state relays made with a milli second rise time to
control electro magnetic interference. Would this slower turn on warm up your
cold filament?
