Since everyone seems to be touting the fruits of their labor these days, let
me say that I've been working on something like what you proposed.  It's not
ready for even low-scale production yet but perhaps in a couple of months or
so...

If anything ever comes of it, you'll read about it here first ... I'll also
add that initial results are promising, performance-wise, but the looks are
still a bit, er, "clunky."
