*55 alive
Maybee it's just me, but it seems that cops do more harm than good.
When traffic is flowing at a usual (though it is above posted speed limits)
rate of speed, don't tell me it's not unsafe when some dumb cop is either
parked off to the side, running radar, or patrolling, and everyone has to slam
on thier brakes to avoid getting ticketed, yet endangering evreyone around them
by slowing down so suddenly. Me, I'd like to have everyone continue with the
same rate of speed...after all what is the cop gonna do, pull everyone over,
but that's just not the way it is.
I think that they are more of a danger. There is almost nothing I hate
more than a cop being behind me when I'm driving. I usually turn off into a
side street so I can begin to drive over 30mph again. I can't afford another
ticket, so naturally I'm terrified of cops...I try to avoid any contact with
them at all possible cost. Is this good? Should we fear these "servants, and
protector's of the people," whose salaries we pay? What should I, a law
abiding citizen have to fear? Am I really a threat to society by driving fast?
Am I the only one who feels that they are "out to get us." I hate to make them
sound bad, but this is really the way I feel. They have power, and we don't!
On the 55 mph issue:
I doubt speed limits will change noticibly, or any time real soon, but
it will be nice. I like the fact that they are being increased, even if it is
on a small scale. I wonder if I will ever see the day when I can safely and
legally drive 90 mph on the freeway. This would be very nice.
On politics:
I don't know why y'all have been ragging on poor ald Ronnie and George
. Remember, the Republicans stand for smaller government, and less regulation.
This is the way I think. This county was founded on the principal that we, as
American citizens, should pretty much be able to do whatever we want as long as
it doesn't endanger others. This country was started by religious heretics,
who came to this country seeking religious freedom. When the framers of the
Constitution got together, they made it so that the president, and government,
could not restrict our personal rights. They wanted to keep government small
and for the most part, out of our dayly lives. I think this changed most drast
ically in the sixties. Look at government today....too big, broke, and corrupt
. I can't think of one of our rights that gov't hasn't infringed upon.
Obviously government can't run things they way they have been. I say it's time
for a change.....let's go back to the basics.
I think government overregulates us because they believe in the
misconception that most people are bad, and will misuse these privelages. I
however feel the opposite way. I feel that people (Americans in general) are,
for the most part, good. I believe that if we were unregulated, most people
would continue on as they would under gov't regulation. I feel the same way
about the speed limit. I just want to drive a speed that's comfortable with me
, not how some nimwit from Washington wants me to drive. Comprende? OK, I'll
get off my soap box now.
This was just a very right wing southern conservative point of view.
Sorry I started on the politics on the quattro net, but I felt it illustrated
my philosophy on the speed limit. I hope I didn't offend anyone, especially
y'all up there in MA.
I think that the Quattro Club should run the country, and we should
have an Audi owning president. Ned Ritche for President! Anyone want to help
with the campaghn? Vote Ned Ritche in '96.
Later,
Dan
