Ok, got some news re: Dinan engineering (Mountain View, CA). As you may know,
they put an ad in European Car a few months ago asking for “donor” Audi’s for
chip R&D. Since the ad indicated it would be free, I was extremely
interested. When I called, they had cancelled the project. However, it looks
like it is now back on track. Today I spoke with Brad at Dinan 415-962-9401.
He is one of two guys who are heading up new chip development. Apparently the
project was pushed back a few months but they hope to get it started as early
as this month and as late as December. Unfortunately, Brad is not an “email
guy”--I told him about this email group and how he could make a mint (or at
least get a bunch of data) if he subscribed to this. In any case, he said he
is interested in moving forward with Audi Chip development and that my name
is in the “hot file”. I don’t know if he wants a flood of calls from Audi
guys with watering mouths (like mine) but it might not hurt to help
justify/illustrate the demand for 5cyl upgrades. Of course, I hope they start
off with the 200QTW ‘89 variant.

P.S. Anyone think it is stupid to let their sole source of transportation be
a test mule? I’m betting on Dinan’s excellent reputation (and something in
writing) to protect my wunderwagon.
