Dave, thanks for replying, I asked David Preece, chairman of the Quattro
Owners Club, to send me the procedure for becoming an international member.
As soon as I know more I'll publish it here. I got your name off a list
from Eric Michiels in Belgium, he's the area manager outside UK for the
QOC, so I thought you already were a member.
This summer 7 members of the Dutch Audi coupé and quattro club (of which
I'm a committee member) met with David Preece and some other QOC members at
the historic races in Silverstone. Around 20 UrQs showed up, and we also
saw a red Treser roadster and a very nice red sport quattro.
We also visited David Sutton's workshops in Daventry, where we saw some
fine rally quattro's and sport quattro's. David had just hired some new
premises where the goodies are on display. All cars were for sale as well.
Prices varied from L 45000 for a quattro A2 via L 48000-65000 for a sport
quattro to L 125000 for a sport quattro S1. BTW, sport quattro's are also
for sale in France, Italy, Belgium and Germany now and then, for around $
80.000.
Our Dutch Audi coupé and quattro club organises 6 meetings a year and also
publishes a club magazine 6 times a year. Last year we visited the Audi
factory in Neckarsulm and next year we will have a combined meeting with
the QOC to visit the Nurburgring and the Ingolstadt factory.
Content of meetings varies from sitting in a cafe and chatting about our
nice cars to driving our cars on the Zandvoort circuit. Always nice. There
are 94 members at the moment of which 32 own the real thing.
I drove my 85 Coupé quattro (BTW did they sell that in the US as well?) on
the Nurburgring circuit last Sunday. The old part of the famous circuit,
called 'Nordschleife' is about 15 miles long, with 150 bends and corners.
most of them blind brows, so very difficult to drive. You pay 15 Marks (10
dollars) for one round. It is a public one way road, so you can find
anything from vans with 6 people in it to fast semi-racing cars. Dangerous,
but fun.
After that I went for a high-speed drive home. Germany still has no speed
limits on large parts of their Autobahns. And although they can be busy at
times, there is still room for full throttle here and there.
