The antena in my '84 broke a long time ago.  Same thng as yours, motor ran, but
he antena didn't go anywhere.  My problme was that the case itself cracked
open, and allowed the motor gear to slip so it didn't engage the spinning
mechanism to retreive the mast.  I fooled with it a few times, got it to work
occasionally, then said the hell with it and pulled the eletrical connector out
of it.  'Course, that was a few years ago and now the antena is all bent up
from sail-boards, skiis, mountain bikes and everything else I used to put on
the roof, but the reception's still great so I'm not too worried!
