the quest for a 4000 continues
I saw another 4000 today, and one on Wed. The one on Wed was an 87
that had lots of things wrong with it, in particular a non-functioning
odometer stuck at 69k and an 'owner' who insisted it was his car,
even though I know he sells cars on the side. The killer was when I
pointed out that the trip meter had not budged though we drove 6-7
miles. Ready for this? He says "oh, well, 3 to go, 3 to come, back
to 0!" Hahahahaha!
The one today was a bit better - anthracite grey, 130k miles with
red leather interior. Mechanically it was OK though it needs a
radiator, part of the exhaust, and maybe brakes. The interior was
ok but the leather was a bit cracked, and it really shows on the red.
It does look sharp though - I was sure I'd hate it, but it's really
neat, especially with the black/red door panels. The car had some
dings and dents and the paint on the hood and fenders was a bit faded.
He's asking $3400 but will go down to $3000. Supposedly he's a
mechanic and this is his personal car. I'll think about it but I
think I'll pass.
Anyway, thought I'd post my experience. I'm becoming pretty proficient
in 4000 quattros lately. Feels like I'm buying a house though :).
Look for 'the art of buying a 4000csq' at a bookstore near you soon.
