I guess if the engine does consume (or leak), it maybe possible that
putting synth oil into it will get worse. The bad thing is not that if
your engine will eat more oil, but more like if you're willing to pay all
those extra bottles of synth oil.
Very few people reported that their oil-consuming engine actually stopped
consuming oil when they switched to synth oil. But who knows if they're
telling the truth or were on Colorado mushroom tea? If you want to figure if
your engine belongs to one of these, then you will need to change to
synth and see what happens, eh?
