I think you might have called it yourself Nick.  I've heard of
injectors being popped out by the boost pressure, causing some
of the fuel vapor to escape.  If you think about it, other than
unburned fuel in the exhaust, this is the only place where there
is fuel in the air.

Is your car stock?  I'd appreciate hearing what you find, because
we also drive an '88 5kCSTQ Avant (pushing 100k miles).
