If the problem has persisted since new, I would probably guess bad or 
grounded wire or sender ou of adjustment, but all previous possibilities 
still appy.  You are correct in guessing that there are correct and 
measurableresistance measurements.  unfortunately I do not have a Bentley 
handy, but will check for proper values if you don't find them first.  As 
you know, owning an older AUDI makes a current test gauge indispensible!

             I have an 80 Series Fluke so I can measure just about 
     anything.  I just have to figure out what is a typical reading in the 
     sender.  I don't have the Bentley either.  Oh, and I have to figure 
     out where the sender is located too.
