I believe that 2*2*5 inch unit mounted to the block below the #3 cyl is
the warm-up regulator. It controls the mixture during warm-up by varying
the conrtol pressure to the fuel distributor as a function of
temperature. I believe this only comes into play during warm-up, when you
should not be pushing the engine into boost. I believe it's the
CPU-controlled frequency valve that controls mixture during normal
operation and is responsible for controlling the mixture when under boost
as well. When under boost the CPU just ignores the O2 sensor and controls
the mixture based on the remaining sensors.
