Audi Tools (was: '89 200 TQ Fuel pump?)
Well, does this mean because my radio is marginal (antenna amp I presume,
but haven't done the diagnostics), I have to replace the fuel pump?
Seriously, mine has been noisy since we first drove the car in February.
It seems to vary with the level of fuel in the tank. It irritates my
wife, and I don't want to have this car do a full stop someplace not of
my own choosing.
So I've been thinking about doing a preventative replacement. Last nite
I looked it up in the Bentley, and it looks like its a snap
except the whole procedure is based on having two special tools. Anyone
done this without the tools, and what did you use instead?
Thanks
Tom F.

Its probably ok, The rule of thumb is, if it's not loud enough
that you can hear it with the radio on low and it's been doing it
since new..... Its probably gonna last a while. But if it starts
getting noiser, replace it immediately!!! Because it can hose up
stuff further down the fuel line. I've put 45k miles on a buzzing
pump with no problems. But I negotiated a Bosch fuel pump as part
of the deal when I bought my 89 100.... :-) Its still in the box.....
Mike L,
oh, almost forgot. A pump is around $200.- or so from aftermarket
places like PAP.....
