Yup, thats the part,,, its called a link rod. Up front they make a 
groan/sqeek, especially while turning the weel at slow parking lot 
speeds.  By greasing the boots, it will help it a litle, but will only 
last a month or two at MOST! It is really easy to replace, two bolts, 5 
minutes max. They use a nylon socket with a metal ball. 

Front ones are only like $70 and the rear is like $40 or so. Pretty cheap 
for an audi.

The rear makes a different sound though, more like an occasional  'tink'  
(hows that for a description!?) It makes a noise you really cant pinpoint!
