	Chris,

	My '85 5KT suffered briefly from almost exactly the same
	symptoms earlier this year. I left it at work overnight,
	intending to take it to a local mechanic the following day:
	the symptoms had *completely* disappeared when I returned in
	the morning! I had it put on the rack anyway, and all I
	found was a torn CV boot. I now surmise that it was a rock
	caught in the joint, which fell out later.

	While I was agonizing about all this, another netter mentioned
	that he had experienced similar symptoms and it turned out
	to be water freezing inside the joint -- so it went away when
	the car was warm.  Sounds a lot like yours, though the
	temperatures you mention seem too high to freeze water.
