VW question - Hot Cam, high tech

when my friend pulls codes on his 1992 vw he gets a fault code

	4431, Idle stabilizer valve code

> Engine mods:    Shrick cam 265
>                 Neuspeed chip
>                 European 50 mil intake 
>                 Tectonics 2.5 inch exhaust

		  the timing is factory.

the idle stabilizer seems to be operating -( dis/reconnecting it alters the
idle) - all else seems ok. - is it possible that he has confused the 'puter
with his high tech gear? If so why that fault code? He did say that sometimes
when he lets off the gas it drops to idle in 500-700 rpm tiers.
