My Bentley Manual says nothing and neither have any of the instruction
sheets that came with CV joints said this. I can't imagine what help
locking compound would have here other than to eliminate any small amount
of lateral play that the mechanical locking scheme (C-clip or whatever)
may allow. I never noticed any play in mine.
