Rear Brake Pads
Thanks. I changed the shoes on my beetle once. I think I get the idea
about the vise grips and the retaining spring - lots of fun!!
I guess I orta go ahead and change them suckers. I let a friend of mine
borrow my car and she drove around for 35 miles with the parking brake
fully engaged. She said, "I thought I remembered your car being a lot
faster. After a while I smelled something and checked to see what it
was. I finally realized the emergency brake was up. Sorry."
BTW, have you ever heard of GT Motorsports? It's a design competition
sponsored by Society of Automotive Engineers to design from scratch and
build yourself a scaled down formula 1 race car. Tech uses a 600cc Honda
F2 motocycle motor with a custom designed turbo and completely mapable
digital fuel injection. Some teams even build their own FI. The cars
are super fast - 85 BHP and only 500lbs w/o driver. 0-60 around 3.5
seconds, nearly 1.5 g's on the skidpad. We're working on our first car
ever here at Auburn. You learn a lot about cars when you have to design
one from scratch then build it. If you're interested in GT Motorsports,
try to get involved through the Mech. Eng. dept. Tell Ennis Bragg or
Doug Stone I sent you. You may have seen or heard them practicing in the
physics parking lot.
Anyone else interested in this, check out the Formula SAE homepage on the
web. I'm not sure of the address, just look up FSAE in a search engine.
It's an international competition.
