I'll see if I can find any listings in the medical or veterinary literature
about ACTUAL toxic experience from Sierra.
The additional ingrediants (except for water at 2-3%) are in trace amounts
(tenths or hundreths of a percent), and are relatively innocuous in their own
right (Sodium Borate, Sodium Molibdinate, Sodium Nitrite, etc.). The pH is
9.0 - 10.0, not sufficiantly alkaline to cause significant injury to mucous
membranes.
Unless the literature shows up something different (and if it does, I would
think that the Poisondex - which is updated monthly - would have reflected
it), it would seem that Sierra's claims have some actual foundation. >>

I did not miss your point, I just don't agree with it...... Bottom line is
that PG/EG are TOXIC, the presence, not the volume is the problem..... If
your redneck mechanic is willing to leave ANY PG/EG unattended
(yesterdays/todays/tomorrows'), chances are that the 10oz of either will be
there..... I have a BIG problem with this as a reason to switch to PG......
Your leaky water pump example gives me little stir, do you think that anyone
is going to measure how much PG/EG is there? If it is present cuz of a leak,
my money would be on the fact that there is at LEAST 10oz..... Residue on
the driveway, is just carelessly ignorant of safety.........
Back in the 60's when I was growing up.... Dad used to change the antifreeze
in the various machines, and we had 2 dogs....... AWARENESS of what you are
doing is the key, dad used to make sure the dogs were no where near the
garage when changing the antifreeze (this isn't a new issue here), and wash
any residue away...... Education and Awareness is the KEY here, I know there
are still people out there that have NO idea that EG is as toxic as it
is...... So what is the argument here, use PG, since PG needs larger amounts
to be toxic, the ignoramouses of the world will kill less animals....... I
find that argument just plain silly....... Tell me that the wear on cooling
components is better, or that the delta-t is better, PERFORMANCE based
arguments, and I will consider...... To use the TOXICITY issue to me, is
just another cool/uncool argument............
I will have some performance data soon on the Sierra, I know some folks in
Detroit that tested it (performance wise) and nixed it, as soon as possible,
the post will follow.......
