Audi oil filter numbers

The primary oil filter for an '83 TQC is #035115561.  What is the
difference between it and #035115561A, which I think is for the V6?  And
the other oild question, do the metal seal rings need replacing on both
applications each time?

In case you're wondering, just opened a box packed in the move from
Colorado and found some filters, but I can't remember the reason for the -A
filters.
