86 Audi ABS will not stay engaged

My cousin and I have the same problem on both of our '87 5kcst since struts 
were changed and ABS sensors R&R.  The ABS stays off all of the time.  So how 
do you adjust the ABS sensor?  I assume it's a magnetic pickup so the 
orientation of the magnet in relation to the direction of rotation of the 
wheel is important?
