Cooling Fan

Hello Out There!!

     I have an '86 4KCSQ, whenever I get in and drive the car for about 
ten to fifteen minutes, the temperature gauge needle is pointing to the 
H, and the temp light begins to flash.  I noticed that the cooling fan 
does not go on when the engine is running, but it eventually goes on 
after I have shut the engine off.  Any ideas??  Thanks in advance.
