Re: Re v/vr 6's
Eliot and Scott:
I am enjoying your discussion immensely! I do come down rather solidly on
Scott's side (sorry Eliot...not really).

I agree that the v6 comes across as smooth, but don't call it
lexus-like.....ughh! Also try to consider the v6 in a purpose built sport
coupe as opposed to a "sport" sedan ( I know it wouldn't fit, just consider
it). Under those conditions the intake system, the exhaust system, the
gearing, even the cam profile, would be optimized for that "sport coupe"
type of response. The vr6 provides those visceral sounds because it is set
up that way for the car it's in. The v6 can be moved towards that end,
even in the 90, by a simple exhaust mode...more sound and slightly more
pick-up, more driving pleasure for the sport afficianado. Improved intake
can increase the sound slightly, but the v6 has got a more sound deadening
engine cover for the application which it is in..a sedan.
You've got to consider the application the engine is in for the fine tuning
that was done to other systems, too...not just for those mentioned in the
previous discussions.
