The Bose systems are biased that way.  In fact, in my wife's Honda Accord,
the bass (and treble, for that matter) controls are "center" detented at
about the 70% level--that is, from the detent position, the controls will go
about 30% to the right (increase) and 70% to the left--kinda like a suggested
loudness level.
