With the grit in there, most likely, the filter was not installed
correctly at some point, did not get a good seal all the way around. I've
seen this before in Audis where the filter is so very difficult to get
at. "Grit" is MUCH too large to get *through* the filter, but not around
it! Datapoint: Ur-Q w/190,000 miles, K&N since 55,000 miles, no grit, no
valve problems, no filter related problems at all. On performance, turbo
lag is less with the K&N Vs paper, boost comes up much faster & higher. I
think the K&N is a win.
