Re: Changing Transmission Oil

Nivi@aol.com just asked:

I recently replied to a similar question (but did it get through? These
"mail delayed on dtc.hp.com" messages are confusing...):

The capacities are:
     transmission--3.4 qts (3.2 l)
     differential--2.3 qts (2.2 l)

Incidentally, I use Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube, 75W/90, for both. Note
that both the trans and diff have two drain plugs; remove both, and you
don't have to worry about putting the car on an incline to completely drain
the oil. Finally, the fill plug on all German trans and diffs I've ever
worked on is on the side/rear, and for the Audi, it's once again 17 mm.
You fill it up until it overflows out of the hole. One other
recommendation. Always remove the fill plug first-there are several
reasons for this, which I leave as an exercise for the amateur mechanic.
