Info on 82 5cyl engine?

     One of my Syncro collegues has located an '82 5000 with a possible
     donor engine for our hot rod Vanagons. Does anyone have HP/Torque
     data..its not a turbo? Are these engines substantially different
     from the later 5cyls?
