Re: Upgrading The 5KS (And other cars)
OK - So here's a completely unsolicited comment:
You want -
1) More Power
2) Bigger WHeels/Tires
3) Headlights
4) Manual Trans
What I found when I drove a 944 was that I wanted siilar features, like
better brakes, bigger tires, more power, upgraded suspension, nicer
interior. After priciong out what it would take to transform my car
into my dream was significantly more than it would cost to sell my car
and buy a 944turbo.
This is applicable, since the 944 was really an Audi anyway!
In any event, my uneducated suggestion would be to look for a car that
already has the features you seek - perhaps a 5000 turbo quattro or
some such beast.
This approach has an added benefit - the car you end up with will be
marketable if you ever need to sell it.
Just like noone wants a 944 with an aftermarket turbo, wheels and other
mods, you wil find that any mods you make on a car from stock will
generally either not increase the value or actualy decrease it.
Aaanyway - this all coming from a man who owns a 275 HP 3.4ltr RSR look
widebodied fire breathing 17" wheeled 12" wide tired 930 suspended
11.5" drilled rotored custom racing trans 2300 with carbon fiber doors,
hood and tailed 911 which started life as an '83 mild mannered 911 SC.
The catch is that I bought the car, in good condition, for the price of
a stock SC ($12,000) with $25,000 of mods paid for by the previous
owner. Sure I dumped $5K in it to make it the way I wanted it, but I
also recouped $2K in extra parts I got with it.
Bottom line - let some other poor slob pay for the mods, or find a car
that comes stock with almost all of what you want.
