The heater in my '87 4kcsq worked great.  Except in the mountains, I never
had to move the temp lever more than an inch from full cold.  I could
seriously dry my hair through the defroster.  (if you wanna talk low heat
output, let's talk about my '91 200q)

ummm...in the mid 70s, VWs (rabbit) used to come WITHOUT center vents unless
you ordered A/C.  instead, i got an ashtray (useless to me) and cig lighter
(some use once i got a radar detector).  it was quite nice when the '80 audi
4k came WITH center vents even though no A/C.  And yes, all you ever got from
the center vents was fresh air, unless the A/C was on ('87 4kcsq), when you
got airconditioned air from them.
