Q #1)  What is mystery oil?

Q #2)  Don't you find that certain oils encourage the problem more than 
others?  It *seems* to me (could be just my emotions here) that a nice 
20w-50 like Castrol GTX makes the sound go away.  For a while last summer 
I also added in some straight 50w... and, well, I think all that latter 
stuff did was *muffle* the sounds!!  &:-)

p.s. - I *do* like to shut my car off and admire it from a distance.  
(Especially when I'm driving my Alfa.)

p.p.s - It *does* help to turn the radio up, although NPR is less 
effective than MJQ at reducing the noise.
