trunk struts

all,
my '86 coupe gt came (early '95 when i bought it) with the struts that 
hold the trunk lid up completely dead.  snap-on tools has a nice 
telescoping stand-alone strut that i bought for about $20.00, so its not 
dropping on my head everytime i reach in, but my mechanic says that the 
factory replacements are almost $100.00 each and two are required.  does 
anyone know of a part number for a cheaper replacement for these parts?
