MANY 5K/200Q questions - Please answer as much as ya can
I wrecked my TQ over the weekend, slid in the half-inch of snow we had
(baloney-skin tires) & ate a stone wall. I've got a _bunch_ of options on the
next move, which means I've got lots of questions. Any of the below anyone can
answer, I'd sure appreciate however much or little anyone knows on any of the
subjects.
1. Do the '91 200Q wheels have the same lug pattern as the '87 TQ's do? I'm
guessing they do, but if anyone knows for sure, I'd love to know. Also, what's
the dimensions of the wheels (like rim-size and tire size) on the '91 200Q's?
2. If 5kT wheels don't fit on the '91 200Q's, and I can't/don't fix the TQ,
I've got a set of wheels for sale. 17 inch Borbet Type C's running 215/45
Dunlop D40M2's. Never been on the car, in fact I don't even have 'em yet
(well, I have one, had to make sure they'd fit.) JerkOff at the Tire Crack
tells me they're somewhere in the mail. If they'd a been here Friday when they
should have, well let's not go there...
3. Anyone know how much a set of Euro lamps for an '87 TQ would set me back?
$500 sticks in mind (Ludicrous for a set of stupid lights), but I can't
remember. Anyone know where I can get a set of them? I know Ned sells 'em,
but who else does? Also, who's the best manufacturer of the Euro lamps? Seems
like there's two, Hella and someone else. Any "light" anyone could shed on the
better manufacturer (maybe that's only the 4000's that have two manufacturers?)
would be appreciated.
4. Anyone ever put Euro headlights on a '87 TQ? What all's involved? There's
nothing left of the original trash, and the hell if I'm gonna put the stock
crap back in there. What all do you need to mount the Euro lamps? I mean as
far as actuall mounting brackets & anything else. Everything on mine is done,
the light's pushed about four inches towards the motor, so I'd hafta guess that
all the mounting stuff is history. The metal sub-structure that the lights
mount to is screwed too, guess I could hammer/pull it back into place though.
Do the Euro lamps replace the side markers too? How about the metal trim that
runs around the lights themselves? I'm guessing that's a stretch... Do Euro
lamps run the same type of bulbs that the American one's did? For some reason
all my lights still work, even though there's no glass or lense left at all.
Guess a little moisture will take care of that though...
5. Do the Euro lamps that fit a '87 TQ fit on a '91 200Q? They should, it's
the same body (basically, I know about the wheel flares & the reinforced frame)
right?
6. My TQ is (was) black/charcoal/dark grey/special black/special gray/metalic
black/dark metalic grey. I've heard of the color refered to as all of the
previous names. Does anyone know the actual (like how the factroy would refer
to it) name of this colour? The car looks black at nightime, but not in the
daylight. In the daylight it looks like it's got road-grime all over it, even
when it's waxed. The car had NEVER BEEN WRECKED before Saturday at 3:15 PM, so
I have no body-shop/paint shop receipts to look at to see what colour the damn
thing is. No body shop would ever be able to match the paint anyhow, so I
think I'm gonna pull off a fender and drag it around to a few boneyards to see
if I can find a car the same colour as mine & pull off a few panels. Problem
is, I've never seen another car the same colour as mine (plenty of black
Audi's, but none the charcoal-ish colour mine is) either on the road or in a
boneyard (although I know of one in Chicago, lock your doors Scott :-) so I
think finding a match is gonna be impossible.
7. Anyone know of any boneyards in Colorado that have a whole mess of Audi's?
I have a bad feeling that the colour of my TQ is specific to the '87 TQ's, and
there simply aren't many TQ's here in DC. I will be in Colorado relatively
soon, draging a fender on an airplane wouldn't be too fun, but I think I have a
better shot of finding body parts out there than in DC. Anybody knowing an
overstock of trashed Audi's in Colorado, I'd be most appreciative of knowing
the where-a-bouts of it.
8. Are there any differences between the bumpers on any of the different
Audi's? I know there's a difference between the bumper on my TQ and on the
'84, the TQ has actual slits cut in the lower bumper where the vents are, for
the oil cooler and the alternator duct, whereas the vents are just for looks
and have no slits on the '84. Is this a difference in years, or a difference
in turbo/non-turbo? Do all 5kTurbo/200 cars have the same front bumper, or is
the Quattro bumper different than a turbo bumper? Any difference in the
sub-structures? I know the '84 has a steel (maybe aluminum, in any case it's
metal) sub-structure, whereas the TQ has a fiberglass (at least it splintered
like fiberglass) sub-structure. Again, a difference in years, or in
turbo/non-turbo? Has anyone ever tried to get a non-turbo bumper and just cut
out the slits? I'm sure I cna pick up a non-turbo front bumper around here for
a song & a dance, but turbo's are rare in this area. Luckily, most 5K's in the
boneyards around here are in perfect shape, most aren't wrecked they just die.
Body parts are rather abundant.
Thanks for any help/answers/advice anyone can give. I need to make some
decisions, and they directly rely on the above information. Again, thanks for
any anwers to any of the above.
