Re: 4th gen. quattro
Just a small further 3 pfennig's worth (approximate value at today's exchange
rates) on the A4/A8 quattro EDL system. It is incorporated in the Bosch ABS5
control unit. The fifth generation of Bosch ABS brings EDL along for nearly
zero cost. It is not, however, carried over from VW - they use Teves, but
the application is similar.
As to Torsen, the V8 quattro had a Torsen rear diff because it was
state-of-the-art at the time. Audi wanted to showcase the best of everything
in the car. It is a much more expensive solution than EDL, but EDL wasn't
production ripe at the time the V8 quattro was launched.
