Fixing pwr windows 85, 4Ks

All:

The passenger side power window on my 85 4KS wouldn't go up or down, so I
took the door apart and found that the cable going from the motor to the
window mechanism was broken. The previous owner had just lifted the window
closed and bolted the cable to the door.
(ARRRRGH @#$#$ Doouuuh! )

Anyway, before I delve into the intricacies of reparing the cable, just
thought I'd ask the list for some opinions. 

Has anyone attempted this repair before? If so is it worth fixing? Reason
being that a recent issue of "European Car" deals with a conversion from the
cable operated power windows to the later "scissors" type of mechanism. If
it's a complicated (or fiddly) repair then I might as well junk the cable
for the later style.
