Re: How safe is above normal boost?

Howdy.

Do you happen to have schematics on the ECU?

I'm interested in this as I've been contemplating fixing my computer
('90 100 tq, MC engine) to have it control the boost instead of going
with the stiffer spring.

I have a ECU mod from a Swedish company, don't know if they've made it
themself. Anyway before I sent the ECU to them for a mod I de-soldered
the EPROM and dumped the content. I also soldered in a (good quality)
socket and put the EPROM back and sent the box to them. When I got it
back the new prom was sitting in the socket ;-) and I also got the old
EPROM back!

The new prom is definitely modified, I hooked a gauge up and
disconnected the wastegate completely. At 2 bar boost (3 ATA) the ECU
shut the pump off. I also compared the contents of the proms and they
differ.

Unfortunately they still rely on a stiffer spring to increase boost. I
was thinking of making it more dynamic, like allowing a boost of 1.5
bar for a short while and then reverting back to 1.0.

I disassembled the prom for the '85 200tq I once had. The wastegate on
this one was spring controlled only and I wanted to remove the boost
limit, but I never found the piece of code that handled this. I've
been thinking of doing the same with my current two proms to be able
to use the stock spring.
