        I own an A4Q and has the same GALA feature on my radio; however,
I've noticed changes in volume only during hard acceleration ( I guess the
sampling rate of the GALA system is not that high--may be it sample the
vehicle speed once every 3-4 seconds--and that's why you can notice the
changes only during hard accelerations).  The way to see if you GALA feature
is working properly is to play with the GALA on/off button, while you're
driving at a constant speed, try turning it on and off, I'm sure you can
tell the difference; otherwise, go to the dealer and get it fix.  I think
the GALA feature works so good and subtle that if you are not accelerating
hard, you can't really tell the difference, it just do its job (i.e. Gradual
Audio Level Adjustment) and keep my hand from increasing/decreasing the
volume when going on/off the freeway.
