I think the problem here is that you view their chip mods as a "product" and
they (IA, TAP) view them as a "service." With a product, most people expect
the price they pay to be a reflection of the actual cost of production; with
a service, they usually understand that what they're really paying for isn't
so much the means to an end (i.e., a chip mod) but the end result itself (in
this case, more power) and the expertise necessary to achieve it.

As one who makes a living providing a service and not a product, I deal with
this issue on a daily basis ... mind you, I think it takes some real cojones
to charge "service" prices then refuse to explain EXACTLY what it is you are
doing (conceptually at least, if not also electrically and mechanically). I
know that if I tried to pull this stunt in MY business -- "don't worry about
HOW I got you the refund, just enjoy spending it!" -- I'd be out of business
almost immediately and justifiably so.

See? I really DID have drink too much this enveing! ;*)
