Re: A valid comparison?/ Wanted: A4Q
Mercedes dropped the 4-matics (which were only available as wagons in the
E-Class) a couple of years ago. The system was hugely complex and actually a
part-time, fully automatic system.
With the new E-Class, there is no longer a 4-matic anywhere in the world.
Mercedes has, however, signed a contract with Styer Daimler Puch in Austria
to develop a more cost effective all-wheel drive system for the E-Class.
Styer will produce it. Might be available in two years or so.
Volvo has also shown an all wheel drive 850 in some European Auto Shows and
is likely to produce it in limited numbers in the plant they jointly run with
TWR.
