yes, there certainly was no torque convertor-coupling, but shaft style
slushboxes are in use in road cars, most notably adnoH.  they are
jerky, but efficient.  the real point i was trying to make is that
electronics have gotten so smart now that they can make better shifting
decisions than the very best human drivers.
