They don't all have a gauge, but anyone considering one should get the
gauge version. I recently bought one and used it to check the vacuum diff
locks on my urQ. The gauge was very useful to see slowly falling vacuum,
as well as measuring the vacuum necessary to actuate the lock. As I lay
under the car checking the units, I tried to imagine troubleshooting that
stuff without it. In this type of car, it's just about as useful as a
voltmeter.
Yup, they's handy little gadgets fer sur.
However, they aren't all that accurate, and in particular, they don't
hold vacuum (or pressure) all that well (they'll show any obvious or
gross leaks nicely) -- they are just cheapsh*t plastic toys. There is
a "professional" version available though -- all "metal" construction.
Dunno if its valve seals (holds vacuum/pressure) any better though...
For the $30 or so, very cost-effective addition to the tool collection!
